Church of England

The Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich (Church of England in Suffolk) is fully committed to Safeguarding within its churches. They have been working hard with partner agencies in order to get safeguarding up to date and to make sure that their churches are safer places to be.

There has been a whole culture change within the Church of England and this has been fully supported and endorsed by both the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board (LSCB) and the Safeguarding Adults Board (SAB).

In 2018 this Diocese trained just under 6000 people in safeguarding, who undertake a wide range of responsibilities, with a number of different courses tailored for staff and volunteers depending on their role within the churches. This has led to an increased awareness and understanding of the importance of safeguarding principles within the church and an understanding of the actions required to be undertaken where a concern is identified.

They are committed to supporting the development of safeguarding within Suffolk and are represented at the SAB Board and assist the partnership through representation at the SAB Training and Development subgroup with the vision of working together to keep adults safe.

They will continue to work with the Safeguarding Adults Board and other partner agencies to ensure that they keep up to date with the very highest standard of safeguarding within their churches across this county.
